Lindsay Lohan is facing charges on both coasts following an alleged assault at a Manhattan nightclub Thursday, and misdemeanor charges stemming from an auto accident that occurred in California in June.

Lindsay Lohan's day went from bad to worse Thursday, as the troubled actress first was arrested and charged with assaulting a fellow nighclub patron in New York overnight, then later charged with multiple misdemeanors for allegedly lying to California authorities in a separate incident.

The news came when the 26-year-old should have been enjoying a bit of good press after starring as Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie "Liz & Dick," which aired earlier over the weekend.

Instead she was being issued a desk appearance ticket in a New York Police Department precinct and then scurrying to a waiting SUV with a coat over her head while a pack of photographers shouted at her, in a scene that's become all too familiar.

Authorities say that while at the Chelsea club, Lohan hit a woman in the face, coming at her from behind. The other woman allegedly involved was not expected to face charges, according to a police source with knowledge of the situation.

Lohan's lawyer, Mark Heller, later said in a statement that his client "is a victim of someone trying to capture their 15 minutes of fame."

But Lohan soon had other problems to worry about.

By the afternoon, unconnected to the club incident, Santa Monica police said they had completed an investigation into an accident involving Lohan's black Porsche 911 and a dump truck on June 8.

Santa Monica prosecutors had been investigating the incident after police said they found evidence Lohan lied when she claimed she was not the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident. "During the subsequent investigation, information was developed that Lohan was the driver of the Porsche when the accident occurred," police said in a news release.

Lohan was charged with willfully resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer in the course of their duties; providing false information to a peace officer; and reckless driving, according to police.

Lohan is currently on informal probation for taking a necklace from a jewelry store without permission last year. How these latest charges impact her probation is uncertain. At present, the "Liz & Dick" actress doesn't have to check in with a judge or probation officer but could face a jail term if arrested again.

The former child star has had several problems in New York in recent months. She was involved in an NYPD investigation in September after alleging a man had assaulted her in a New York hotel, but charges against the man were later dropped. That same month, Lohan was accused of clipping a man with her car outside another Manhattan nightclub, but prosecutors decided not to move ahead with charges.

In October, police were called to her childhood home on Long Island over a reported fight between the "Mean Girls" star and her mother. An investigation revealed "no criminality" in connection to the incident.

With the announcement Thursday over charges relating to the June auto accident, Lohan's legal woes now stretch across the country.

While court dates are not yet known in relation to the new charges on either coast, these latest developments could impact the terms of her existing probation.

When Lohan appeared before Los Angeles Superior Court in March to end her formal probation relating to two DUI arrests and the necklace theft case, she was cautioned that if she violates any laws before her informal probation expires in May 2014, she could face 245 days in jail.
