Lindsey Jacobellis may have failed to medal in snowboard cross in Sochi, but she's still going home a winner.

The Olympian has adopted one of the Russian town's famed stray dogs, whose uncertain fates have made for one of the major human (not to mention canine) interest stories of these Winter Games.

"This Sochi Stray scored a one way ticket to the USA with @LindsJacobellis #luckydog #justintime," tweeted cross country skier Holly Brooks, along with a pic of Jacobellis and her new best pal.

Gus Kenworthy will be so pleased! (The skier stuck stayed in town after his silver-medal showing in the slopestyle event to ensure that the family of strays he has come to call his own will receive safe passage to the United States.)

"Me and my pup," Jacobellis shared a pic on Feb. 15, the day before her big event.

The 28-year-old, appearing in her third Winter Olympics, was leading during her semifinal race in snowboard cross on Sunday, but she crashed and wound up finishing seventh in the overall standings.

But while she may have fallen at the least opportune time, at least she also fell in love.

She and her dog, whose name she has not yet revealed, apparently met about two weeks ago, because that's when the first pic of the dog showed up on her Instagram, with the caption, "This little guy is to die for ....#puppy #Russia."
