Walkers are soon invading Hartford. You'll have to run to avoid being infected, but obstacles will stand in your way, so you'll have to climb, jump, slide and crawl your way to the Decontamination Zone to survive the impending zombie apocalypse.
Fans of The Walking Dead will soon be able to experience this scenario as the world of the popular AMC series comes to life in role-playing obstacle course event The Walking Dead Escape at the XFINITY Theatre on June 28 from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Participants can sign up to be a survivor or walker on the Evacuation Route or be a spectator to the event. Survivors traverse the course and evade zombies in a 35- to 50-minute experience. Professional make-up artists will make walker participants look like zombies. You'll also receive zombie training to prepare you for an hour and a half as an official The Walking Dead Escape walker. If you want to be both, there's a VIP package option that allows you to run the course twice as a walker and survivor.
The different sections include a Chain Link Mega Zone; a zombie-ridden Evacuation Zone; Herd Highway where survivors will need to hide and flee zombies attracted by smells, sounds and quick movements; the hospital where Rick wakes from a coma and you have to escape hoards of zombies; the Prison Gauntlet where you'll have to crawl through barricades and chain-link fences to break away from walkers; and a quarantine area where FEMA teams test you for any zombie infections, according to a press release.
Survivors and walkers will have access to the after party. Spectators do as well and also have access to spectator areas on the course.
The event will last about six hours and there will be many photo opportunities, so bring your cameras.
Tickets purchases and registration can be done online at www.thewalkingdeadescape.com or www.tickets.com. Admission costs $150 for the VIP package, $95 to be a walker, $75 to be a survivor and $20 to be a spectator. Individuals who present a military ID will receive a $10 discount.

The event was originally scheduled for the XL Center on June 7, but has been postponed and relocated. Ticket prices will remain the same.
