Prospect Man Tilts at Windmills

Tim Reilly helped organize the massive rally to repeal the state income tax in 1991.  He lost that battle, but he vows to win this one.

"This is huge," said Reilly, on the eve of a demonstration at Prospect Town Hall.

He's alarmed by the fast track he fears two five-hundred-foot-high wind turbines are riding.  They would tower over Route 69, and from what Reilly says, turn the neighborhood of more than a hundred homes into a giant disco.

"There'd be a strobe effect at sunset as the blades cut through the sunlight," he said.  "It sounds like a jet that never lands."

Some people are worried about their health, he said, and all the people he's talked to are worried about their property values.

By the same token, all the people he's talked to support alternative energy projects, but on mountain ridges, not along roads.

"What concerns us the most is the company proposing this, BNE of West Hartford, has filed an expedited petition which does not require public hearing," he said.

He hopes tomorrow's turnout can move state regulators to require public hearings before the Connecticut Siting Council.
