150 Sikorsky Employees Laid Off

Sikorsky has laid off 150 employees its parent company, Lockheed Martin, said on Tuesday.

"Although difficult, this action is necessary to ensure we remain competitive in the marketplace, secure future business opportunities, and keep our infrastructure appropriately aligned with customer demands,” Paul Jackson, a spokesman with Lockheed Martin, said.

Jackson said 109 of the employees are in Stratford, Connecticut, where the company has its largest employee base.

Last month, Lockheed Martin announced that it is laying off 350 employees in the Mission System and Training (MST) division as part of a workforce reduction.

In July, the company said it would continue a “thorough analysis” of the Sikorsky business, and any impacted Sikorsky employees will be notified by the end of August.

Officials from Lockheed Martin said the employees did receive severance packages and a job fair will be planned to help the impacted families.

Sikorsky is based in Connecticut but has locations around the world.
