New Haven police are investigating the 17th  homicide of the year in the city.

Police responded to the area of 45 Wayfarer Street in the Westville Manor Public Housing complex around 6:18 p.m. on Monday and found Deran Maebery, 21 of New Haven suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have yet to establish a motive, but they are investigating an earlier dispute that took place in the same location.

Police are still searching for a shooter.

One person had been in custody, but police have now cleared him and said information that led to identifying him as a suspect was not credible.

Police will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. at police headquarters to provide more information on this case, as well as the Key Club homicide investigation.
