SUV Slams into Rocky Hill Home

The driver of the SUV lost control and slammed into the garage of a home in Rocky Hill.

An SUV slammed into a home at Elm St. and Bailey Ave. in Rocky Hill on Tuesday night, just narrowly missing three people inside.

The driver went full speed into the garage, causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage and putting a lot of lives on the line.

The out of SUV plowed into the home at Elm Street and Bailey Road around 8 o’clock.

“It was terrifying,” said Christina Meyer., who witnessed the incident and said the driver almost slammed into her at the intersection seconds before.

“All the sudden I heard screeching…I turned and he was coming so fast,” Meyer explained.
Meyer had someone call 9-1-1 and rushed over to help.

“I'm a nurse so I crossed over the intersection, pulled up on the grass, got out…to see if he was ok,” Meyer said.

The 22 year old behind the wheel was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police told NBC Connecticut he was speeding, and they weren’t ruling out drugs or alcohol. They also said he caused two other crashes right before this one.

“He almost flipped his car over when he went up the curb. His car was on two wheels it was crazy,” said Alexia Burns.

Witnesses said the driver came from the basketball courts across the way and was angry he lost a game earlier in the night.  They never imagined this outcome.

“It was like a movie, it was scary as heck,” Burns added.

Witnesses told NBC Connecticut the driver could have struck dozens of kids around here, and they were thankful everyone walked away from the scare.

“Even seeing the tracks rattles me. I was so close who knows what could have happened,” Christina Meyer said.

Rocky Hill Police did not release the name of that driver, but said he would likely face criminal charges.
