The UConn campus was on high alert after a female student reported she was sexually assaulted while walking on campus on Saturday morning.
Police now say the woman falsely reported the incident.
"During the subsequent investigation, detectives reviewed security camera footage and conducted follow up interviews with the complainant and learned that the complainant falsely reported the assault," investigators said.
The unidentified woman claimed she was attacked along North Eagleville and Glenbrook Road just past 12 a.m.
UConn police said the victim reported she was approached by a group of men who struck her with an object, then sexually assaulted her.
An alert was issued as a result.
"Although this was an unfounded incident, the UConn Police Department encourages all members of the community to report suspicious activity promptly," police said.
According to police, charges against the woman are undetermined at this time.
