Kloter Farms Fire Accidental

The fire was accidental, officials said.

The fire that caused millions of dollars in damage to an Ellington company that makes sheds, gazebos and furniture was accidental, officials said.

Fire broke out at Kloter Farms on West Road just after 7 a.m. on Wednesday and the building had no sprinklers.

An employee inside one of the buildings heard a loud bang and evacuated, Todd Root, the director of marketing for Kloter Farms, said.

The country store, where customers buy home furnishings and homemade furniture, is a total loss, he said. The store that sells sheds and gazebos was not affected.

The Journal Inquirer reports that part of the roof collapsed. Crews of firefighters rotated duties because of heat and humidity.

Robert J. Theriaque, of Dymotek, submitted this video from across the street of the fire at Kloter Farms in Ellington.

Scott Limberger submitted this video, which also shows an active scene.

No one was hurt. The family-owned business is insured and they plan to rebuild, Root said.

Firefighters had put out the fire by 8:30 a.m. and stayed at the scene to put out hot spots.

Kloter Farms, which employs more than 60 people, is located at the corner of Routes 83 and 286 and the roads were closed for awhile.
