Several roads in the center of Middletown were closed down briefly because of a gas leak and have since reopened.

The gas leak was at 505 Main Street, according to the Middletown Police Twitter account

Yankee Gas responded, the gas has been shut off and the roads have reopened.

The gas leak was in part of a busy section of town and prompted Main Street to close at Washington Street.

Washington Street was also closed at Broad Street and DeKoven Street.

Main Street was closed at Liberty Streets and Court Street.

Police said one building had been evacuated.

The fire department also responded to monitor the gas levels.
