Hartford Hospital Worker Killed in Hit & Run

A Hartford Hospital employee was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street on his way to work Saturday morning,  hospital officials said.

The victim, Robert Suljoti, 46, of Wethersfield, was hit by a speeding car around 6:20 a.m. while crossing Retreat Avenue.  He later died of his injuries.  

Suljoti was on his first day on the job in the hospital's environmental services unit.  He had previously completed a training program and was known in the hospital community.

Police are actively searching for the driver of the evading car.  Anyone with information is asked to call police.  Retreat Avenue remained closed Saturday afternoon while the investigation continued. 

Hartford Hospital released the following statement:

"Earlier this morning a tragic accident took the life of one of our staff members as he was crossing Retreat Avenue on his way to work. The entire Hartford Hospital community speaks with one voice in saying that our hearts and prayers go out to the family, and that we are all grieving this loss. Hospital leadership is working closely with the Hartford Police Department to find the driver of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. Our staff is also working with the family to offer support at this difficult time."
