Tests Show Nothing Hazardous in White Powder Delivered to Cheshire Rehab Facility

Some employees of Cheshire Regional Rehabilitation Center were placed in isolation on Monday after an envelope with white powder was delivered to the facility, but tests showed the powder was not hazardous.

Cheshire police, firefighters and state and federal agencies responded to the facilty at 745 Highland Ave., at 10:32 a.m. on Monday after receiving reports that a suspicious envelope with white powder was delivered to the facility.

No one was evacuated from the center, which provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and more.

Officials said the employees who were exposed to the powder did not show any symptoms and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection tested the substance and found nothing hazardous, but the state laboratory is conducting more tests.
