Gov. Dannel Malloy says he's getting complaints from Connecticut citizens about the prospect of paying higher taxes.
The Democratic governor said Monday he heard from people last weekend, while buying coffee, that oppose the prospect of paying state sales tax on veterinary and other services. Those ideas were part of a bill approved last week by the legislature's revenue committee.
Malloy joked about how the complaints made him think he should "stay at home."
Malloy, who has promised not to increase taxes, said residents don't want the Democratic tax increases or the Republicans' "fantasy games" of paying for programs with state employee labor savings the governor contends are unrealistic.
Asked if a budget compromise can be reached before the legislature's June 3 adjournment, Malloy said, "I'm here all summer."
