Middletown Man Sentenced in Fatal Boat Crash

A Middletown man convicted of manslaughter with a vessel in a boating death has been sentenced to three years in prison.

The Journal Inquirer reports that Michael Antol was sentenced in Rockville Superior Court on Friday. He pleaded guilty in December to second-degree manslaughter for crashing his boat in April 2012 on a Union lake while drunk. His friend, Richard Franas, was killed.

The 42-year-old Antol, his lawyer and family members argued for a suspended sentence, saying he is in poor health due to his grief.

Franas' widow also asked for leniency. But other members of his family cited their intense grief and said their lives have been greatly altered and asked for the five-year maximum sentence in the plea deal.

The three-year sentence will be followed by five years of special parole.
