Dozens of motel guests at the American Motor Lodge on South Main Street were forced to evacuate after a fire broke out Saturday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the scene just after 2:30 p.m.

The fire was contained to one room, but part of the motel will be out of commission while managers make repairs, said Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Ayotte.

All guests were evacuated safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
