A 31-year-old New London man was arrested on Monday, in the middle of Superstorm Sandy, because he shot at a boat that was pushed to shore and hit his house, according to police.

Shane Carrier, of Pequot Avenue in New London, is accused of shooting at a sailboat that had broken loose from its mooring, washed ashore and struck an occupied house on Pequot Avenue.

Police responded to the street just after 5 p.m. on Monday for a report of a man with a shotgun.

Police took Carrier into custody and found two shotguns and a loaded rifle, police said.

Carrier was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, loaded rifle in a vehicle, weapons in a motor vehicle, interfering with police and breach of peace.

Carrier is being held on a $25,000 bond.

No one was injured, but the sailboat and house both sustained heavy damage, police said.
