Prison on Lockdown After Correction Officer Assaulted

The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institute in Suffield is on lockdown after an inmate assaulted a correction officer, according to the Department of Correction.

DOC spokeswoman Karen Martucci says an inmate, identified as 23-year-old Terrill Edge, reportedly assaulted the correction officer around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The correction officer was transported to the hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. He has since been released and is recovering.

Edge was transported to Northern Correctional Institution in Somers, which is a higher security facility, according to Martucci. Edge is in administrative segregation, which means he is separated from the general population. He is being reviewed for placement.

Edge was admitted on Oct 2, 2013 and is serving a three-year sentence for violation of a protective order.

Martucci says MacDougall-Walker remains on lockdown Sunday. It has yet to be determined when the lockdown will be lifted.
