Two kayakers had to be rescued off the shore of Compo Beach in Westport, police said.
Police said a report came in on Monday about an unoccupied kayak floating approximately one-third of a mile off the Soundview and Hillspoint Road section of Compo Beach.
One person was on the rock island out in the water and another person with a kayak had attempted to save the stranded kayaker.
The kayaker attempting to claim the other on the island started to struggle because of offshore winds, police who were keeping a visual on the incident said.
Police were able to launch a rescue inflatable boat to assist the kayaker attempting to paddle back to shore and the person still stranded on the rock island. Both were safely brought back to Compo beach by the inflatable police boat.
Neither person had inflatable devices.
