Ruth Wagner is accused of stealing items from a Christmas craft fair and stabbing someone with a Christmas ornament.
The Christmas spirit was all around on Sunday during a Christmas Craft Fair in Southington until a woman stabbed another woman with a Christmas ornament, police said.
Ruth Wagner, 55, of Burrit Street in the Plantsville section of Southington, is accused of stealing several items at the craft fair at Acqua Turf and using a seashell ornament to stab someone who was trying to block her from fleeing from the scene.
Police responded to the facility, known for hosting weddings, at 3:45 p.m. after getting a call for a larceny.
When they arrived, they learned that a vendor who suspected that Wagner had stolen from her was watching the woman and saw her steal an seashell ornament with a long tail from another vendor.
She approached Wagner about the alleged thefts, but Wagner ran off and vendor yelled for someone to stop the woman, police said.
Another woman who happened to be at the door tried to stop Wagner and was stabbed in the forearm with the seashell ornament, police said. The victim had to be taken to a local hospital because a piece of the shell became lodged in her arm.
Wagner fled, but witnesses noticed her license plate, when led police to Wagner's home.
They charged her with robbery in the first degree, assault in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, larceny in the sixth degree and breach of peace in the second degree.
Bond was set at $100,000 and Wagner was released. She is due in court on Dec. 5.
