    Barkworthies Dog Chews Recalled for Salmonella Risk
    Barkworthies has issued a nationwide recall of its Chicken Vittles dog chews due to a Salmonella risk.

    Barkworthies has issued a nationwide recall of its Chicken Vittles dog chews due to a Salmonella risk.

    According to the Virginia-based company, the chews may be contaminated with Salmonella which can affect the dogs who eat the product or humans who handle the treats.

    Indications your pets may be infected with Salmonella include diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Your pet may also become lethargic, have a fever or abdominal pain. Barkworthies suggests that you call your veterinarian if you believe your pet has been infected.

    The recalled product was distributed nationwide beginning on May 6, 2014, and can be identified by the "Lot Code" on the backside of the plastic pouch or at the bottom.

    The company said it has not received any reports of illness related to the product.

    According to Barkworthies, the recalled product should not be sold or fed to pets.
