Food, Wine and Opera in Litchfield Hills

The Litchfield Hills Food, Wine & Opera Gala will be held on Sept. 8.

Good music and good food have always seemed like a classic combination.

At least that’s what creators of the first “Litchfield Hills Food, Wine & Opera Gala” believe. 

Started by local business owners Karen Hughes, Carole Winer and professor Vincent de Louise, the event was created to bring high-quality music and entertainment after they noticed a lack of live music in the Woodbury area.

The gala will start with a farm-to-table, locally sourced style dinner created by four Connecticut chefs – Tom Gould of Brass City Bistro, Denis Niezes of Ovens of France, Carole Peck of Good News Café and Jerry Reveron of Taft School and founding chef of The Woodward House.

After the meal, there will be a concert featuring famous operatic arias and selections from works by composers like Mozart, Verdi and Leonard Bernstein.

But the gala isn’t just about entertainment. The creators are also using it as a launch for their charity, The Connecticut Summer Opera Foundation.

The newly formed foundation plans to “serve to support a summer residency in operatic vocal training, as well as engage in educational outreach by bringing operatic music to grade schools and elementary schools, to introduce the art form to the next generation of concert goers,” according a news release.

The “Litchfield Hills Food, Wine & Opera Gala – A Musical Feast!” takes place on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Country Loft, 557 Main Street in Woodbury.
