What You're Doing This Weekend: May 8-10

What are you doing this weekend?  The question should be what aren't you doing?

You can say "Heeellllooooo" to Jerry Seinfeld Friday.

The comic-turned TV star-turned comic is performing at MGM Grand.  The Sein has shows both Friday and Saturday, but unless you are among the lucky few, you won't be there.  Both shows are sold out.  Think of it this way, in this economy, you're probably better off saving the 300 bucks and renting a DVD.

But... for just $25 a person, you can see "Hot Chocolate Soul" at the Bushnell's Autorino Great Hall Friday.

The show is a delicate balance between music, comedy, improv and poetry (intriguing, no?).  Hot Chocolate Soul, which is held every 2nd Friday of the month through June, highlights area rising stars and entertainers.

The show starts at 9 p.m.

Saturday night, you might want to head to New Haven.  There's this cool Artspace party we told you about during the week.

Or perhaps Toad's PlaceFischerspooner will give you a truly unique musical experience.  The band is the brainchild of Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner (hence the name.)  Their style of electronic music combined with an extravagantly visual stage show has set them apart from other groups.  It's just $25 to see the show, which starts at 10 p.m.

Sunday, it's all about Mom.

There are Mother's Day events all over the state, so here are just a few to get you started.  Just break out a Mimosa and try to pay attention.

VIVO Seasonal Trattoria in Hartford has an exquisite brunch, offering everything but the kitchen sink (actually, they probably have one of those too, but hopefully not on the menu).  The brunch is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  It's $39 for adults and just $19.95 for the kiddies.  Call 860-760-2333 for reservations.

The Adams Mill is offering a breakfast buffet from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with everything from waffles to fresh salmon, and also has a dinner buffet with eight entrées and a carving station from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  It's $27 for adults, $21 for teens, and just $10 for the little ones.  Reservations are required.  Call 860-646-4039 for information.

And there's a gospel brunch at Black-eyed Sally's BBQ & Blues in downtown Hartford.  For $28 ($12.95 for children) you can treat mom to an uplifting Mother's Day.  Stuff yourself with Black-eyed Sally's full southern-buffet, all while listening ton a world-class Gospel and Blues Performance by the Mary Taylor Soul Band.  Seatings are at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.  Call 860-278-RIBS one of the best phone numbers ever) for reservations.
