Van Crashes Into House

A  49-year-old man was seriously injured and three people were displaced Saturday after a van crashed into a six-unit home along High Street in Bristol.

Ruben Soto, of Bristol, was driving along High Street  around 5:21 a.m. when witnesses say that his 1997 Dodge Caravan, left the roadway, rolled over and struck the home at 64 High Street.

Police say that Soto's van traveled about 125 feet off of the roadway and struck several objects before it rolled off of a retaining wall and landed on its side and slid into the house.

Soto, who police say was traveling at a high rate of speed, was ejected from his vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

There were three people inside of the home when Soto crashed into it, said police. None of the occupants of the home were injured. The residents where taken to Bristol Hospital for evaluation, where they were later treated and released.

The three occupants of the home were displaced after the City's Chief Building Official determined the home to be uninhabitable due to its extensive damage, said police

The residents will stay with other families members while repairs are made to the home.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Bristol Police Department.
