1 Arrested, 1 Sought in Ansonia Robbery

Two men suspected of trying to rob an Ansonia convenience store, hit a worker in the face with a gun, used a stun gun on him and stole a phone, according to police.

One suspect is in custody, but the other has not been caught.

Police responded to GQ Mart on Hill Street at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday and learned that two men went in, said they were there to rob the place and tried to steal money from the cash register, police said.

They were not able to get any cash, but injured the worker and stole a cell phone, police said.

Both assailants ran, but police identified Jarvis Sanders, 21, of New Haven, as a suspect. They said the other person remains at large.

Sanders was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree threatening, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny and breach of peace.

He was held on $100,000 bond and arraigned at Derby Court on May 19, police said.
Court records say he is due back in court on June 3.

Court records state he is being represented by a public defender
