1 in Custody After Chase on I-91 from Massachusetts to Hartford

A Hartford man is in custody after a chase from Massachusetts ended on Interstate 91 South in Hartford, according to state police. 

State police said Ian A. James, 34, of Hartford, engaged police in a pursuit from Springfield, Massachusetts. The original incident involved a gun, Connecticut State Police said. 

During the chase, troopers attempted to box in James' vehicle but he began ramming cruisers, according to state police.

Connecticut State Police reported minor injuries to troopers but it is not clear how many people were hurt. Up to five cruisers from both Connecticut and Massachusetts were struck in the incident. 

Eventually, troopers and officers successfully boxed in the driver near exit 33 on I-91 in Hartford and arrested James.  

James was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, illegal possession of a motor vehicle plate, insurance coverage fails minimum requirements, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, operating under the influence, operating without a license, use of drug paraphernalia, weapons in a vehicle, criminal mischief, assault and reckless endangerment. 

His bond was set at $250,000.
