Men Sexually Assaulted Drunk Woman: Police

Police said they broke up a sexual assault of a severely intoxicated woman by two Stamford men.

The Stamford Advocate reports that Ruben Enio Sandoval, 35, and Augusto Carreras, 53, were arrested on sexual assault, unlawful restraint and conspiracy charges.

Police said they received a report from an eye witness who said the two men were dragging a 20-year-old woman into Carreras's apartment on Saturday.

The witness, who saw that something was not right, followed the men and the victim, saw a light in one of the rooms and waited for police to arrive, police said.

Court documents say an officer saw Sandoval having sex with the woman who passed out on a mattress and police were able to stop the assault.

Neither of the men knew the victim and she was in no state to give consent, police said.

Sandoval and Carreras pleaded not guilty on Monday in Stamford Superior Court.

Prosecutors said the allegations are shocking and are supported by the officer's account and surveillance video.

A public defender said both men would be appointed outside lawyers because the Office of the Public Defender has an unspecified conflict representing the men.
