2nd Arrest in Connection to Norwich Arson

Police arrested Denise Djedje, 20, Tuesday.

Two weeks after charging a woman with setting fire to an apartment building in Norwich, police have arrested a woman accused of concealing evidence and lying to police.

Jaynell Gibbs, 21, of 30 Spaulding St., Norwich, is accused of concealed a can of gasoline Denise Djedje allegedly used to start the fire on May 5, then lying about it and giving false information in a statement to investigators.  

Gibbs has been charged with tampering with evidence and making a false statement, in the second degree. Bond was set at $25,000 and Gibbs appeared in court in Norwich.

Denise Djedje, 20, of Norwich, was arrested on Tuesday, June 5.

Police said Djedje set fire to an apartment building at 38 Spaulding St. and caused moderate damage to the building.

Djedje was charged with first-degree arson and first degree criminal mischief.

She has not issued a plea and is due in court on July 5 on those charges, as well as a creating a public disturbance charge in a separate incident in Norwich on April 14.
