Ann Romney Gets Personal in Visit

"We are going to win in November"

Ann Romney's message to GOP faithful on Monday night was both political and personal.

The wife of the likely Republican nominee was the keynote speaker at the Prescott Bush Fundraiser in Stamford.

While she talked about the campaign, she spent a lot of time talking about what it's been like raising five boys.

"I know what's it's like to get up in the middle of the night when they're sick and I know what it's like to struggle," Mrs. Romney told the crowd of 800 supporters.

The dinner was sold out, but tickets ranged from $250 up to $5,000 a person.

Sales for the dinner went up after Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen went on television and said Ann Romney never worked a day in her life.

"Yes, Ann Romney works very hard, every day," state Republican Chair Jerry Labriola said before introducing Romney.

"Some people think I didn't work but those were things I was very busy doing," she said.

Mrs. Romney also spoke about her struggles with M.S. and breast cancer and she added that being on the campaign trail is not always easy.

"The days are long, the road is hard, the trials are there and I never know when the gray cloud will start raining over me again," she said.

Ann Romney's visit comes almost two weeks after her husband campaigned in Hartford.

Both have been trying to court the female vote and with good reason.

A recent Quinnipiac Poll shows Mitt Romney trailing President Barack Obama by 16-points in Connecticut.

Among women, it's a 21-point deficit.

But Romney supporters believe Connecticut will be competitive come November and they say Ann Romney will help.

"It's early, obviously the gender gap is an important one but when women hear about Gov. Romney empowering people and growing jobs, (it) resonates with everybody, but especially women," said Republican state senate leader John McKinney.

Ann Romney said even in Connecticut, Republicans have a shot.

"I know you believe too even in this state with that kind of message, with women caring about the economy, that we can win," she said.
