Beer Runs Out, Throat Gets Slashed: Cops

Violence ensues over the last Heineken, police say

A simple game of cards turned very, very violent Sunday morning when the beer stock ran out.

Gildardo Cruz, of Norwalk, had invited some friends and cousins over to his apartment to play cards on Saturday night, the Norwalk Hour reports, and there was beer. Heineken, according to a police report about the alleged violence that ensued.

The friendly game went into Sunday morning, and that’s when it seems to have taken a  turn.

Someone had downed the last Heineken, the Hour reports. A fight started. Someone pulled a knife.

Cruz, he told cops, wrestled it away from the other guy and slashed the victim’s neck, in self-defense, the newspaper reports. Several other card players suffered minor injuries, according to The Hour.

Police arrested Cruz and charged him with assault.

The newspaper did not name the victim, a 27-tear-old man, because he is the victim of a crime. He sought at a neighboring home and the Hour reports the victim remains in stable condition at Norwalk Hospital.
