According to The Departments of Children, Families, Youth & Recreation and Public Works, the car was found around 4:30 this morning.

Troy Stewart, Superintendent of Recreation for the city of Hartford, said that right now they are assessing the damage and working to determine whether liquids from the car leaked into the pool.

Stewart said he will not know when the pool will be reopened until the level of damage is determined. He did say the pool would not be open today and that they have had to turn away a number of parents and children looking to swim.

"This is so devastating for us," said Stewart. "We are so devastated looking at all the kids and parents and it just hurts us. But we are trying."

Stewart said that there are three other pools that city residents may use free of charge while the pool at Goodwin is under repair.

The Goodwin Park Pool, 1130 Maple Ave., opened one week earlier than scheduled on June 21 to help city residents beat the heat.
