2 Waterbury Fires Were Set: Officials

Homeless people were sleeping in one, a family slept in another.

Two major fires that broke out within a quarter mile in a 21-minute span in Waterbury have been ruled arson.

Fire started at a multi-family home on Baldwin Street at 1:26 a.m. on Tuesday.

Firefighters evaluated 12 people. The residents were not injured, but they have been displaced and the Red Cross is providing assistance.

At 1:47 a.m. on Tuesday, fire was reported at Martin and Baldwin streets.

Homeless people were sleeping inside the house when the fire started and fire officials evacuated two people. No injuries were reported. 

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the fires.

The state crime lab will be analyzing material taken from the scene.
