Dog Found in Storm Drain Doing Better

"Stormy" was near death when he was found last week.

The Shih-Tzu found in a storm drain outside the Connecticut Humane Society in Newington last week is improving.

"Stormy", as he is now called, was found severely malnourished and near death in the storm drain June 29. An employee at the Humane Society rescued "Stormy" and got him medical care right away.

The dog might have died within 24 hours without treatment, according to the doctor who treated him.

"Stormy" has since responded to IV fluids and has been eating food and drinking water, according to the Humane Society. He was still suffering from seizures, and was treated at the Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, where the seizures were finally brought under control.

After a week, the 11-year-old Shih-Tzu is now able to stand and walk on his own. "Stormy" still has some medical issues, and was placed in foster care until he is well enough to be adopted.

Newington Police and the Connecticut Humane Society continue to look for the person who abandoned the dog.
