Driver in Fatal Campus Crash in Court

The shuttle bus driver accused of hitting and killing a 20-year-old UConn student on March 22 will appear in court on Tuesday.

Lukasz Gilewski, 20, of Newington, turned himself in to UConn police earlier this month after he learned of the warrant for his arrest and was released on the condition that he appear Tuesday in Rockville Superior Court.

Gilewski, a UConn student, was properly authorized to drive the bus that hit fellow student David Plamondon in a crosswalk in March, police said.

Plamondon, a native of Westminster, Massachusetts, died of his injuries and his family plans to file a civil suit in the case.

Gilewski has been charged with negligent homicide, which carries up to $2,500 in fines or six months in prison if he is convicted.
