Fire on Main Street in East Haven

On the same day an air-conditioning repair company worked on the cooling unit at 26 Main St. in East Haven, fire broke out, damaging the building that houses three companies.

An employee from a neighboring company ran over to 26 Main St. on Thursday after seeing smoke coming from the roof and warned people inside.

"Someone came running in and said the air conditioner is smoking," Tabitha Marrone said.  "Five minutes after that, someone came in and said 'it's in flames, get out.'"

Robert Celantano, a viewer, sent in this video of the flames coming through the roof.

Earlier in the day. a company came in to address problems with the air conditioning unit, officials said, but the temperature on the thermostat continued to rise.

The third floor of the building was vacant, officials said, and photos show flames pouring from the roof.

As East Haven firefighters battled the fire, the Branford Fire Department provided assistance.

The building that was damaged houses Cellura Co., Beacon Group and Punch Connection.

The Twin Pines Diner is located near the scene and employees said they were not evacuated.
