Former UConn Football Player Charged With Child Porn

He said he met someone online who offered him money to post the photos.

A former UConn football player was arrested on Friday, charged with having child pornography on campus in 2010.

Gregory McKee, 19, of Chicago, turned himself in to state police in Tolland on Friday.

Police said McKee had 96 still images of child pornography and 26 video files of child pornography that depicted boys, between 5 and 10 years old, engaged in sexual acts.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children identified more than 70 of the children found within these image and video files.

He previously gave a written statement to having the photos and videos, but told police he met someone online who offered to pay him for posting the images, according to officials. The payment never arrived.

In September and October 2010, the State Police Computer Crimes Unit was investigating possession and distribution of child pornography from the campus of the University of Connecticut.

In December 2010, McKee was charged with importing and distribution of child pornography, state police said, and suspended from the team just weeks shy of the UConn's first BCS Bowl appearance.

McKee received a scholarship to UConn and, according to his bio on UConn's Web site, he is a freshman offensive tackle from Chicago, but he had not yet played a game. He was a red shirt and there are no plans for him to travel to Arizona with the team.

Police seized McKee’s computer and other evidence and brought it to the forensic laboratory.

The forensic analysis was completed in November 2011 and state police applied for an arrest warrant for the accused.

McKee, who now lives in Chicago, turned himself in to State Police Troop C in Tolland around 8 a.m. on Friday, where he was formally arrested and charged with first-degree possession of child pornography, third-degree computer crime or third-degree larceny.

He is being held on bond and will be arraigned in Rockville Superior Court.
