No Place Like Home for the Holidays

But Getting There Wasn't So Easy

They say there's no place like home for the holidays, but for some traveling Wednesday, it took a little longer to get there.

Bradley International Airport was hopping as passengers on a flight from Florida came to get their bags. They were originally on a flight scheduled to depart at 11a.m., but that got pushed back till 5:30 p.m. and landed in Connecticut a little after 8 p.m.

"They said it was from the delays in New York last week, so it was all pushed back from New York last week," said Bryn Nasajpour of Gainesville, Florida.

"We were stuck at the airport for quite awhile, but overall they were pretty nice. They kept us updated; we were getting updates on our cell phones and by email. We predictably saw the delays coming, but they finally got us on board and got us to Connecticut," said Hossein Nasajpour of Gainesville, Florida.

They weren't the only ones dealing with delays. Winter weather pushed some flights back and even canceled two flights at Bradley, one from and one to Chicago's Midway Airport.

"Our flight was canceled. We had a stop over in Chicago. We were supposed to be going at 11, so we're going tomorrow morning," said one passenger.

Those traveling by train also had some setbacks. A morning power problem in Northern New Jersey caused eastern Amtrak trains to be delayed, some of them by two hours. So those waiting to pick up family at New Haven's Union Station made their best guess to when the train would pull in.

"Because of the delays they changed their train, so we don't even know where they are right now and what time they're coming," said Hannah Van Buiten of Oxford.

"It's totally hectic, but we're just in full time taxi-cab driver mode," said Chris Van Buiten.

They say it's all part of traveling for the holidays, and they're just happy everyone is home in time to celebrate.
