Pawtoberfest Event Hopes to Raise Money for Wolcott Dog Pound

The Wolcott Dog Pound said they are running on fumes when it comes to medical funding for their animals.

Wolcott Animal Control Officer Roslyn Nenninger said the city provides money for operations, but the pound's medical funds are funded separately.

"The public is generally where we get our funds to do more for these animals," Nenninger said.

Nenninger said expensive medical care for dogs this year has been tough on their budget. One dog has had cancer treatment and another needs a leg amputated. The costs for just those two dogs exceed $6,500.

The pound is teaming up with Johnny B's Bar and Grill. They plan to host the fifth annual Pawtoberfest on Saturday at 1457 Meriden Road in Wolcott. With a $10 cover charge, Nenninger hopes the cash and donations will help the pound.

"There's a reason why here it's because humans have failed them already and we refuse to fail them," Nenninger said.

Last year organizers say they raised nearly $10,000 for the dog pound.
