Seeing Double in Westport

Staples High class tries to break Twins Record

What is it about twins in Connecticut?

For the second time in five years, a high school in the state is laying claim to the world record for having the most sets of twins in a single class.

The Stamford Advocate reports that Staples High in Westport has 16 sets of twins in the Class of 2014.

That would break the Guinness World Record of 13, set by the double-trouble class of 2010 at Pomperaug High in Southbury.

We featured that class when they set their record.

"Right from the beginning I knew we had a lot of twins in our grade," Luke Foreman, 16, told the Advocate. He has a twin sister named Megan "But it didn't strike me as unusual until I counted all the twins we had. We came up with the 14th pair of twins, and I thought we had something cool."

Foreman created a Facebook page for his fellow twins, most of whom are fraternal. Then he checked out the Guinness website and learned that his class could be record-holders.

But the record isn't a done deal. The class had to submit specific documentation to Guinness officials, including copies of their birth certificates. They also had to gather for a class picture as part of the process to make sure their record is real.

The class hopes to get official recognition from Guinness before the end of the school year.
