Thunderstorms Possible Today and Tuesday

Over the last 30 hours, a tropical air mass has spread over the state, bring humid heat that will feel like 98 degrees, so take it slowly and hydrate as much as possible if you have to be out in the elements.

A cold front will bring relief by on Tuesday afternoon and will slowly move across New York state late tonight and tomorrow.

As the front approaches, we will get scattered thunderstorms later this afternoon and last into midday tomorrow.

The storm prediction center has Connecticut in a "slight" chance for severe weather later today.

The biggest threats are downpours of rain, vivid lightning and straight-line wind damage. In the most intense storms, winds could gust more than 50 miles per hour.

In the wake of a tornado last week in Bridgeport, it is important to note that the risk of tornadoes is very low today and tonight.

The upper levels of the atmosphere are pretty warm and the wind expected to develop is not favorable to form a tornado.

After the cold front eases by tomorrow, we will have much cooler, drier air, and fair weather is expected to rule the forecast into the upcoming holiday weekend.
