Warming Centers Open

With sub-zero temperatures continuing, some cities and towns are opening up warming centers. If your town is not listed, call 211 for information or visit the Website. 

Bloomfield: 

The Alvin & Beatrice Wood Human Services Center, 330 Park Avenue, 860-769-3566. Open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday thrugh Saturday. Use the Community/Youth Center entrance on the west side of the building

Prosser Library, 1 Tunxis Avenue, 860-243-9721. Open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, on Friday and from 10 a,n, to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

McMahon Wintonbury Library, 1015 Blue Hills Avenue, 860-242-0041. Open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m between Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Blue Hills Fire Department, 860-243-8949. Opem from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Town will provide water, but residents should bring their own food. Also bring medications, emergency contact phone numbers and any other items you might need during the day. Service dogs are always welcome.

Hamden

Warming centers are located at:

  • Miller Memorial Library and the Hamden Senior Center, at 2901 Dixwell Avenue.
  • Hamden Government Center, at 2750 Dixwell Avenue
  • Keefe Community Center, 11 Pine Street (frontage on Dixwell)

After-Hours Locations for Emergency Warming:

  • Hamden Police Headquarters, at 2900 Dixwell Avenue, attached to the Memorial Town Hall
  • Fire Station #2, at 71 Circular Avenue
  • Fire Station #3, at 421 Hartford Turnpike
  • Fire Station #4, at 2372 Whitney Avenue, attached to the Memorial Town Hall
  • Fire Station #5, at 2993 Whitney Avenue
  • Fire Station #9, at 245 Johnson Road

Residents with financial needs who have shelter but have emergency need of fuel or a furnace malfunction should call the Hamden Community Services Department at (203) 562-5129 for assistance during business hours or Hamden Emergency Dispatch at (203) 230-4000 after-hours.

Hartford

The following shelters will stay open 24 hours if it's below 25 degrees.

New Haven

  • New Haven Free Public Library Main Building, at 133 Elm Street, will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It will be closed on Sunday.
  • Fair Haven Branch Library, at 182 Grand Avenue, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, closed on Wednesday, open from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday, closed on Friday, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday.
  • Mitchell Branch Library, located at 37 Harrison Street, will be open from noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, closed on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, closed on Friday, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday.
  • Stetson Branch Library, located at 200 Dixwell Avenue in the Dixwell Plaza, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, closed on Thursday and Friday, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  and closed on Sunday.
  • Courtland Seymour Wilson Branch Library, located at 303 Washington Avenue, will be closed on Monday, open from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, closed on Friday, open from 10 a.m. from 5 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday.
  • New Haven Union Station, located at 50 Union Avenue, is open daily from 4 a.m. to 1 a.m.
  • New Haven’s homeless shelters will be open around the clock through Tuesday.
