Officials to Decide How Much Adult Product's Too Much

Southington is meeting about merchandise at the new VIP

Forget the curb cuts and easement talk. A Southington town meeting on Tuesday will focus on porn, well adult products anyway.

When the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission meets tonight, it might sound like they are taking inventory at the adult shop V.I.P, which stands for Very Intimate Pleasures, the New Britain Herald reports.

It’s all in a night’s work because town officials want to ensure that the adult boutique proposed for Queen Street in Southington meets the zoning requirement that not more than 5 percent of the inventory will be adult products, such as pornographic DVDs and magazines.

In August, Owner Dominick DeMartino told the Herald that the Southington store would compete with Victoria’s Secret, with much of the retail space devoted to clothes, shoes, gifts, jewelry and lingerie.

Town officials want to ensure that’s the case.

DeMartino hopes to be open by Jan. 1 and needs a certificate of occupancy to do so.

Residents in town have been up in arms about the store opening, because of its central location on Queen Street in the former Ethan Allan.

If you cannot make it, this might be a town meeting worth Tivoing.
