Neveah Angel Bryant was visiting at her aunt's West Haven apartment on Sept. 30, when the aunt's three pit bulls attacked.
When police arrived at Erica Hobdy's home at 6:15 p.m that day for a report that a child had been bitten by a dog, the 20-month-old was unconscious.
She died at Yale-New Haven Hospital. On Thursday, police charged Hobdy with criminally negligent homicide, first-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor.
The three dogs, King, Trina, and Mayno, were euthanized.
"She was in my kid's room sleeping," Hobdy said after the attack. "Somehow the door got opened. I don't know how the door got opened and the dogs got into the room. By the time I got upstairs, my niece was already gone."
The chief state medical examiner ruled Neveah's death an accident.
Hobdy is being held on $25,000 because of prior convictions and a probation violation. She is duw in court on Jan. 19.
