An 8-year-old Branford boy is in serious condition after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Tuesday.
Branford police investigated and determined the boy was not wearing a helmet when he collided with the car, driven by a West Haven man.
The boy and his two brothers were riding bikes on Surry Lane and entered the intersection of Coachman Drive, where the car struck the boy.
Paramedics immediately transported him to Yale-New Haven pediatric hospital, where he was treated for head injuries. He remains in serious condition.
“Our heart felt sympathy goes out to the family of this little boy. The men and women of our agency are praying for his recovery from the terrible event,” said chief John DeCarlo.
Branford police said no arrests are anticipated.
Protective bicycle headgear is mandatory by law for children under the age of 15.
