Crash Knocks Out Traffic Lights in Part of Hartford

The traffic lights are out at Sigourney and Hawthorne streets in Hartford, near Aetna, after a crash early this morning and police will be directing traffic.

Police said they responded to the area just before 1 a.m. after gunshots were reported but learned that an impaired driver had gotten into a crash and caused significant damage.

According to police, a witness reported gunfire, but the driver said no gunshots were fired.

Police looked at the evidence and reviewed surveillance footage, which led them to believe that reckless driving and intoxication were contributing factors, police said.

The driver was taken to St. Francis Hospital for non-threatening injuries.

Police warn that there will be delays.

Eversource is at the scene to restore power, but it could be three to five days before the traffic box is replaced, police said.

They also said an arrest warrant will be coming.
