Crews Battle 2 Separate Fires in New Haven Within an Hour

Crews responded to two separate fires in New Haven within an hour on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters received the call for the first fire around 2 p.m. Crews said there was heavy smoke showing from 222 Lexington Avenue.

The fire quickly became a second alarm fire and more crews were called to the scene, according to firefighters.

Fire officials said the back stairs are burnt out, but did not release details about the damage in the rest of the home.

It is unclear if anyone was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Shortly after the first fire, a separate fire was reported at 309 Howard Avenue around 2:45 p.m.

Firefighters said it was a working fire and extra crews were called in to help fight it.

Fire officials said firefighters from Hamden, North Haven and West Haven were called in to help New Haven with coverage.
