Glastonbury Liquor Store Burglary Caught on Camera

A Glastonbury business owner is asking the public for help in identifying two people who broke into his liquor store over the weekend.

The break-in happened at the South Side Wine and Spirit Shoppe on Water Street in the middle of the night on Sunday.

“Just after 2:30 a.m. Glastonbury police responded to a report of an alarm,” said Lt. Corey Davis of the Glastonbury Police Department.

Surveillance footage shows two male suspects adjusting scarves to cover their faces. They then try to break through the front door. When that doesn’t work, they smash a window.

“The alarm immediately sounded. Which is audible, and it’s very loud, and it’s quiet down here. That spooked one of them, but the other kid tried to grab the register which was empty,” explained the business owner Craig Witzke.

Witzke said it was hard for him to watch the video.

“It’s surreal and heartbreaking all at the same time. Fall time is a very busy time around here, you decorate, you put up pumpkins. This is your pride and joy right here. To find somebody in a matter of seconds decides to trash it and disrupt your life it’s not a good feeling,” Witzke said.

The burglars took off without anything but caused thousands of dollars in damage.

“I came in and found quite a mess actually. Broken glass everywhere,” Witzke said.

The community is railing around the small business, helping board up the windows.

Witzke said he is offering a reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

“I’m just hoping that the motivate somebody to say hey, I recognize that kid he’s a neighbor, or somebody's relative, or something,” he said.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information on the crime is asked to contact Glastonbury police.
