Hartford Pizzeria Reopens After SUV Crashes Through Storefront

New Park Pizza CT in Hartford is back in business.

The New Park Avenue pizzeria held its grand re-opening this morning after it had been closed for nearly four months.

On Mar. 6, a surveillance camera captured an SUV veer across traffic and slam into the pizzeria, destroying the front of the store and part of the inside. Police said the driver fell asleep behind the wheel on his way home from work.

Now, the pizzeria has a completely new storefront. Windows, ceilings and booths had to be replaced.

While owner Sener Sahain and the landlord had insurance, Sahain said he lost about $30,000 in revenue with his business closed.

“This is the only business I have income. And I lost, you know. I have kids and family. I was like really suffering from not having any income.”

His first customer for the grand re-opening? Mayor Luke Bronin.

"It’s great to see this place looking good as new with employees back at work again and ready to serve some great food," said Mayor Bronin.
