There will be extra security officers Friday at Weaver High School in Hartford after a social media threat.

School officials said students went through a safety screening as they entered, bags were searched, and security wands were used.

A letter Tiffany Webley, acting principal for the Weaver Campus, and Ken O’Brien, Principal of the Kinsella Performing Arts Magnet School, sent to families said school staff were made aware overnight of a post on social media that indicated a potential threat of violence against the school and students for Friday.

As a precaution, school officials conducted a schoolwide safety screening for all students when they arrived.

School officials said additional school safety officers will remain on campus through the end of the day as a precaution.

No additional information was immediately available.
