About three weeks after the October nor’easter that left more than 800,000 homes and businesses in the dark, Jeffrey Butler, president and chief operating officer, of CL&P has resigned, effective immediately.
“We reluctantly accepted Jeff’s resignation,” Northeast Utilities’ Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Charles Shivery said in a statement.
“Gov. Malloy made clear that he thought Northeast Utilities needed to address CL&P’s management issues, and it’s clear that process has begun. It’s also likely that there will be other changes on other fronts as a result of CL&P’s performance in the lead-up to and aftermath of the storm,” Malloy’s senior adviser, Roy Occhiogrosso, said in a statement released on Thursday afternoon.
CL&P plans a national search for his successor.
Shivery also said the company has retained Davies Consulting, Inc., a consulting firm, to evaluate CL&P’s preparedness and response to recent unprecedented storms. Preliminary findings are due in January and the NU Board of Trustees will have final report in early February.
CL&P has also added a position to lead emergency preparedness and William Quinlan will work with state and town officials.
The company has also added a position of vice president – CL&P Infrastructure Hardening, which will be responsible for making the electric system more resistant to weather related events.
