Man Arrested Years After “Death”

Suspect's thought dead in 2004 is busted again

Playing dead is taking on a whole new meaning for prosecutors in Connecticut.  They thought a man charged in 2004 a narcotics case in Litchfield had died, until they found him very much alive in New York.

Former Torrington native, Carlos Delacruz, 36, was extradited and arraigned in Bantam Superior Court on failure to appear charges Wednesday.

A relative told the court in 2004 that Delacruz was dead and could not appear for trial in a drug case, according to the Register Citizen.  Prosecutors plan to pursue the new charges in addition to the old ones.

In court yesterday, they asked the court to set a $1 million bond considering his past, but the judge set it a $500,000, the Register-Citizen reports.
